A civil rights organisation, De Advocates for Justice and Human Rights, has also condemned the remand of Sowore in Kuje Correctional Centre, describing the development as a troubling assault on freedom of expression and democratic principles in Nigeria. The group expressed what it called “embarrassing surprise” over Sowore’s remand, accusing the Department of State Services (DSS) of prioritising loyalty to political authorities over the protection of fundamental rights guaranteed under the Constitution.

The activist had requested an adjournment to June 16, but the court ruled that the request did not provide sufficient justification.
