Nwapa described the remand and his violent arrest by the operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) as "a direct assault on the dignity of the court and on the democratic rights of Nigerians."

Human rights activist, Francis Nwapa, has strongly condemned the revocation of the bail of human rights activist and presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore, and his remand in Kuje Correctional Centre.

Nwapa described the remand and his violent arrest by the operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) as "a direct assault on the dignity of the court and on the democratic rights of Nigerians."

In a statement issued on Monday, Nwapa called for the immediate and unconditional release of Sowore and demanded that Justice Mohammed Umar withdraw from further proceedings in the case over concerns about impartiality and judicial propriety.

"I condemn in the strongest terms the revocation of the bail of human rights activist and former presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, and the disturbing manner in which operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) forcefully whisked him away from the courtroom,” Nwapa said.
