Sowore was remanded after the court revoked his bail in an ongoing case.
The Policy and Legal Advocacy Centre (PLAC) has expressed concern over the remand of fiery activist and presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, at the Kuje Correctional Centre, warning that decisions affecting personal liberty must strictly comply with constitutional safeguards and due process.
In a statement issued on Monday and signed by its Executive Director, Clement Nwankwo, the organisation said the decision of the Federal High Court in Abuja to revoke Sowore's bail and order his detention raises important questions about personal liberty, fair hearing and the administration of justice in Nigeria.
Sowore was remanded after the court revoked his bail in an ongoing case.
The development has sparked criticism from rights groups and civil society organisations, many of which argue that the action could have wider implications for democratic freedoms and the protection of civil liberties.
