IDAC head Advocate Andrea Johnson during her testimony at the parliamentary inquiry probing allegations of corruption within the criminal justice system.

The appearance of Advocate Andrea Johnson, former head of the Investigating Directorate Against Corruption (IDAC), before the Ad Hoc Committee in November 2025 presented a significant challenge to the committee.

The committee initiated an investigation into allegations raised earlier in the year by Lieutenant General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi, KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner.

Mkhwanazi’s allegations generated considerable national attention and impact.

Johnson’s testimony addressed alleged corruption in the South African Police Service (SAPS) procurement, the function of Crime Intelligence within the justice system, allegations directed at IDAC, and the process of referring Crime Intelligence cases to IDAC.
