Former Investigating Directorate Against Corruption (IDAC) head, Advocate Andrea Johnson, faced relentless questioning as she was about to wrap up six days of testimony before the Madlanga Commission on Wednesday, with commissioners probing key decisions and demanding clearer answers.
Johnson defended IDAC's handling of several investigations but repeatedly struggled to recall crucial details during the marathon proceedings.
She admitted the directorate had exceeded its legal mandate by authorising an investigation into the SAPS Political Killings Task Team, while maintaining the decision carried no ulterior motive.
However, Commission chair Justice Mbuyiseli Madlanga remained unconvinced, challenging inconsistencies in her evidence and questioning whether she possessed greater knowledge than she had acknowledged.
