Advocate Andrea Johnson entered the Madlanga Commission last week defending the conduct of the Investigating Directorate Against Corruption (IDAC) during her tenure. She left six days later facing the prospect of being recalled to respond to fresh allegations from one of her own former prosecutors.
Over six days on the witness stand, the former IDAC head came under sustained questioning from Justice Mbuyiseli Madlanga and the commission's panel over investigations that allegedly fell outside the unit's legal mandate, the handling of sensitive police cases and her relationship with senior police officer General Feroz Khan.
By the end of the week, the inquiry had shifted its attention squarely to the controversial Crime Intelligence investigation known as Project Diversion, with senior IDAC investigator Mantsha Raphesu expected to provide further insight into the matter.
Johnson spent much of the week defending decisions taken during her leadership of the anti-corruption unit.
