Watch: Danube controlled explosions carried out to help cool nuclear power plant

Romania’s naval forces carried out controlled explosions on the drought-hit Danube River to divert water flow toward the Cernavoda nuclear power plant. The blasts, carried out in the Bala canal, aimed to redirect water from the Bala channel to the old Danube channel and increase water levels. Romanian officials declared a nationwide state of emergency throughout August due to a decline in electricity production after record-low Danube river levels led to the shutdown of a nuclear power reactor.
