The ad for a new driver had sparked an online backlash, with viewers criticizing the spot for trivializing violence against women.

In a statement, CEO Chip Brewer said the ad, which showed a woman shoved to the groud, was “approved by Callaway prior to posting.”

The spot received backlash for portraying violence against women.

Callaway, the PGA Tour, and Golf Channel have all added damage control to their list of duties at the $40 million FedExCup Playoffs finale.
