Rescuers are warning beachgoers not to underestimate the dangers of the Black Sea after a 7-year-old child died in Sozopol after being swept away by strong currents and waves.
The child was in the water with his father and two other children on Tuesday evening when he suddenly disappeared. The incident happened at around 7 p.m., after the father entered the rough sea with the three children.
Lifeguards immediately organized a search, even though their working hours had already ended. Volunteers also joined the operation, while two jet skis were brought to the scene. On Wednesday morning, specialized teams, including divers and Coast Guard boats, arrived to continue the search.
After nearly 20 hours, divers found the child's body at around 2 p.m. in the southern part of the beach. The rescue team assisted in bringing the body ashore and remained at the scene until the ambulance arrived.
Nikolay Kisyov, a lifeguard, said the sea had deteriorated sharply on Tuesday evening and remained dangerous the following day.
