A large-scale search is underway for a 7-year-old boy who disappeared in the sea at Harmanite beach in Sozopol on Tuesday evening.
The child's whereabouts were last known at around 6:55 p.m. in the central section of the beach. He had been on vacation with his father and another child from the family, who are from Svishtov.
According to the available information, the boy entered the water while his father briefly looked away. The sea was stormy at the time. The father reported the child missing to the Sozopol Regional Police Department shortly after 7 p.m.
The incident happened after the scheduled end of the lifeguards' working hours. However, once the alarm was raised, rescuers immediately joined the search. Together with other teams, they formed a human chain extending toward the buoys and searched the area for more than two hours without finding the child.
Police, Border Police officers, divers and rescue teams are involved in the ongoing operation. The bathing area has been closed, while the surface of the sea is being continuously monitored.
