An orange weather warning has been issued for eight regions in Bulgaria due to expected heavy rainfall, thunderstorms and hail on Wednesday. A yellow code is also in place across 17 other regions as forecasters warn of intense precipitation and possible localized flooding.
The orange alert covers Silistra, Shumen, Razgrad, Targovishte, Dobrich, Varna, Burgas and Yambol, where rainfall totals could reach up to 65 liters per square meter. Only Sofia-city, Kyustendil and Pernik remain without weather warnings, with a green code declared for those areas.
According to forecasts, unstable weather will affect much of the country on Wednesday as cumulus and cumulonimbus clouds develop. Short-term but intense rainfall, thunderstorms and hail are expected in many areas, particularly in the eastern part of Bulgaria. The storms will be more widespread from the northwest toward the southeast, while western regions are expected to see fewer affected areas.
A cold atmospheric front moving across the Balkan Peninsula will bring unstable air masses and a drop in temperatures. After noon, clouds will gradually break up and decrease from the west. Winds will shift from the northwest, becoming temporarily stronger in the Danube Plain and the western part of the Upper Thracian Lowland. Maximum temperatures will range mostly between 25°C and 30°C, reaching around 24°C in Sofia.
