Bulgaria’s National Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology has issued a yellow weather warning for Wednesday, June 24, as conditions across much of the country are expected to deteriorate sharply, bringing thunderstorms, heavy rain, and hail risks to dozens of regions.

The alert covers 22 areas in Western, Central, and Northeastern Bulgaria, including Vidin, Montana, Vratsa, Pleven, Veliko Tarnovo, Ruse, Razgrad, Silistra, Sofia-city, Sofia region, Pernik, Kyustendil, Lovech, Gabrovo, Targovishte, Shumen, Stara Zagora, Plovdiv, Pazardzhik, Blagoevgrad, and Smolyan. Meteorologists warn that the situation could lead to localized flooding and hazardous travel conditions.

Authorities noted that during yellow-code situations for heavy rainfall, citizens should remain alert to sudden water accumulation in low-lying areas, while outdoor activities may need to be suspended. Driving conditions could also deteriorate due to reduced visibility and aquaplaning risks.

Forecasters say the night hours will bring a temporary easing of the weather, but instability will return on Wednesday. Short-lived but intense downpours accompanied by thunderstorms are expected across many parts of Western and Central Bulgaria, as well as sections of the northeast. Hail remains a distinct possibility in affected areas.
