A yellow weather warning for thunderstorms has been issued for 14 regions in central and eastern Bulgaria for Tuesday, July 21. The day will begin with sunny periods, but later again clouds with thunderstorm potential will form. Short-lived rain showers and thunderstorms are expected, with the most widespread and intense activity likely in eastern areas and the mountains. Hail is also possible in some locations.
Northwestern Bulgaria will remain mostly dry, with little or no rainfall expected. Winds will continue to blow from the north-northwest, remaining light to moderate. Temperatures will stay high, with maximum values between 30°C and 35°C, while in Sofia temperatures will reach around 30°C.
In the mountains, cumulus and cumulonimbus clouds will build up during the day, bringing temporary rainfall and thunderstorms. The Rila-Rhodope mountain area is expected to see the most frequent and heavier showers, with hail possible there as well. Stronger west-northwest winds are forecast on the highest peaks. Temperatures will reach around 25°C at 1,200 meters and about 18°C at 2,000 meters.
Along the Black Sea coast, clouds with a chance of thunderstorms will start developing over the northern coastline in the morning and will spread to most coastal areas later in the day. Many places will experience brief rainfall and storm activity, with hail possible. The far southern coast is expected to remain mostly dry. A light southeastern wind will turn to a north-northwest direction after midday. Maximum temperatures will range from 26°C to 30°C. The sea water temperature will be around 25°C, while north of Cape Kaliakra it will be closer to 20°C. Sea waves will remain low, around force 2.
