Sunny conditions will dominate across much of Bulgaria on Thursday morning, July 2, but the weather is expected to become increasingly unstable later in the day as thunderstorms develop across large parts of the country. A yellow weather warning has been issued nationwide because of the risk of heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and hail.

During the morning, low clouds may briefly form over some lowland areas before clearing. By midday and into the afternoon, towering storm clouds will build, bringing scattered showers and thunderstorms to many regions. Some of the storms are expected to become locally intense, producing heavy downpours, frequent lightning, and hail.

A light to moderate northwesterly wind will bring cooler air into the country, leading to a further drop in temperatures. Afternoon highs are forecast to range between 28°C to 33°C, while Sofia is expected to reach around 28°C.

Mountain areas will also see deteriorating weather after noon. Thunderstorms and brief but heavy rain are expected in many locations, with some areas likely to experience significant rainfall. Westerly to northwesterly winds will remain light to moderate. Temperatures are expected to reach around 22°C at 1,200 meters and about 14°C at 2,000 meters.
