Bulgaria is bracing for a sharp change in weather conditions on Tuesday, June 2, with meteorologists warning of thunderstorms, heavy downpours, and a heightened risk of hail across large parts of the country. The National Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology (NIMH) has issued a yellow warning code for dangerous weather in most regions.

A total of 23 districts fall under the first-level alert: Sofia-city, Sofia-region, Montana, Vratsa, Lovech, Pernik, Kyustendil, Blagoevgrad, Smolyan, Gabrovo, Stara Zagora, Pazardzhik, Plovdiv, Kardzhali, Haskovo, Veliko Tarnovo, Sliven, Yambol, Razgrad, Silistra, Shumen, Targovishte, and Burgas.

Forecasters warn that the unstable conditions could create significant difficulties throughout the day. "There is a risk of localized flooding, severely reduced visibility, and dangerous driving conditions due to aquaplaning," the weather service cautioned. Outdoor activities may also be disrupted as storms develop.

Weather conditions are expected to worsen after midday when powerful cumulonimbus clouds form over much of the country. Many areas will experience short but intense rainfall accompanied by thunderstorm activity. The most severe weather is forecast for the Central Balkan region and Southwestern Bulgaria, where hailstorms are considered particularly likely.
