A yellow weather code has been issued for 16 regions in Bulgaria on Thursday, June 11, due to expected thunderstorms and periods of intense rainfall, particularly in the western parts of the country.
The day is forecast to start mostly sunny across most of Bulgaria. In the afternoon, however, cloud development is expected, with cumuliform and cumulonimbus clouds forming over Western and Central regions, bringing short-lived but locally heavy showers and thunderstorms. In mountainous areas, rainfall is expected to be more significant, with conditions also favorable for hail.
Authorities warn that the risk of intense precipitation will be spread across parts of Western, Central, Northern, and Southern Bulgaria under the yellow code warning.
Winds will remain light and variable in direction throughout most of the day. By evening, northwestern areas will see a shift to a west-northwest flow. Daytime highs are expected to range between 28°C and 33°C, with Sofia reaching around 28°C.
Mountain conditions will remain mostly sunny in the morning hours. After midday, cloud development will lead to widespread short-term but locally intense rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms. The heaviest precipitation is expected in the Central Balkan region and across the Rilo-Rhodope massif. Winds in the mountains will be light to moderate from the west. Temperatures at 1,200 meters will be around 20°C, while at 2,000 meters they will be near 14°C.
