Clouds will increase across Bulgaria on Friday, July 24, bringing widespread showers, thunderstorms, and a noticeable drop in temperatures, particularly in the western part of the country. A yellow weather warning for thunderstorms has been issued for 10 regions.
Cloud cover will gradually spread from the west and become mostly extensive by the end of the day, with cumulus and thunderstorm clouds developing over much of the country. Rain is expected in many areas, with the heaviest and most persistent precipitation forecast for the mountainous regions and Ludogorie, where thunderstorms and locally significant rainfall are likely.
A moderate west-northwest wind will blow across most of the country, while northeastern winds will prevail in Eastern Bulgaria, bringing cooler air. Daytime temperatures will fall considerably, with highs ranging from 18C to 20C in western regions and between 26C and 28C in eastern Bulgaria. Sofia is expected to see a high of around 19C.
Mountain areas will experience mostly cloudy conditions with widespread showers and thunderstorms. Rainfall is expected to be especially intense over the mountains of Western Bulgaria, the Western Rhodope Mountains, and the Central Balkan range. Light snowfall is also forecast for the highest mountain peaks. Moderate to strong northerly winds will accompany the colder weather, with temperatures reaching around 13C at 1,200 meters and about 8C at 2,000 meters.
