Yellow and orange weather alerts have been issued across large parts of Bulgaria due to expected heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and possible hail, with conditions set to intensify overnight and continue into the coming days.
Authorities have issued first and second-degree warnings for Friday, covering nearly the entire country. In areas under the orange code, rainfall totals could reach up to around 50 liters per square meter, indicating the potential for locally heavy downpours and disruptive storm activity.
Temperatures on Friday are expected to drop slightly, with maximum values between 20°C and 25°C and around 20°C in Sofia. Wind conditions will remain active, with a moderate north-northwesterly flow, while in eastern regions a northeasterly wind will temporarily intensify during thunderstorms.
Mountain areas will also experience unstable conditions, with strong northwesterly winds, rainfall, thunderstorms, and possible hail. Similar weather patterns are expected along the Black Sea coast, where showers and thunderstorms will be present in multiple locations under a light to moderate northeasterly wind.
Looking ahead to the weekend, forecasts indicate predominantly cloudy skies and widespread precipitation, which in some areas may be heavy and persistent. Thunderstorm activity and gusty winds will continue, along with continued risk of hail. Maximum temperatures are expected to remain lower, generally between 19°C and 24°C.
