Three defendants have been ordered held in pretrial detention following questioning over the death of an infant whose body was found in a freezer at an apartment in Kypseli, a central Athens neighborhood.
A 43-year-old Greek man and his 38-year-old German partner face charges including intentional homicide of a family member, allegedly committed jointly. A judge and prosecutor ordered their detention after they gave statements in the case.
A 26-year-old Afghan man was also remanded in custody. He is accused of sexual acts with the couple’s 15-year-old pregnant daughter, as well as illegal possession of ammunition and giving false testimony.
The man reportedly told authorities he believed the girl was 19. He said her parents knew about their relationship and denied knowing that a dead infant was being kept in the apartment’s freezer.
All three defendants were already ordered held in custody last week on separate charges related to drug trafficking. The investigation into the infant’s death is continuing.
