A couple and another man allegedly involved in the death of an infant and sexual offenses against the couple’s 15-year-old daughter will appear before an investigative magistrate on Friday instead of Thursday.
The suspects, a 43-year-old Greek, his 38-year-old German partner, and a 26-year-old Afghan national, are expected to request more time to prepare their testimonies. A separate case file has been formed against the 43-year-old after he attempted to escape police custody during his first transfer from jail to the court. On Thursday, he was given time until October 5 to testify on the new charges.
The couple are already in jail on charges of drug trafficking and failure to report a death.
The baby’s body was discovered inside a suitcase after the owner of the short-term rental flat they occupied on Thassou Street, in the central district of Kypseli, called the police to complain that they wouldn’t pay the rent or leave the premises. A coroner found that it had suffered at least ten stab wounds in the back.
Speaking to the police, the father has blamed medical issues, attributing physical marks found on the baby to efforts to free the body from ice. The mother said she kept the body, unable to accept the death. The Afghan suspect denied knowledge of the baby, saying he only babysat three times weekly.
