Two men have been remanded in custody pending trial after appearing before an investigating magistrate and prosecutor in Nafplio on Thursday over the killing of a 59-year-old psychologist whose disappearance was reported last month in the southern Peloponnese.
The suspects, aged 20 and 24, were arrested on Saturday in the Athens area during a coordinated police operation. They face charges including homicide, robbery and weapons offenses.
The victim’s body was found last Sunday in an advanced state of decomposition in a rural field near Nafplio, requiring an autopsy. His disappearance had been reported by a relative on July 25, triggering a nine-day search operation involving authorities and dozens of volunteers.
According to investigators, the victim was attacked on the night of July 24 after traveling with the suspects to an area in Nafplio. Police allege that the men fatally stabbed him with a sharp object before taking cash, his mobile phone and his vehicle, which was later found abandoned on a nearby hillside.
Authorities said the investigation remains ongoing to determine the full circumstances surrounding the killing and establish the motive.
