A 65-year-old Italian man is due to appear before an investigating magistrate at 11 a.m. Friday in connection with the killing of a woman and her 26-year-old son in the Peloponnese, as he maintains his innocence and authorities continue to examine forensic evidence.

The man, identified by police as the suspect in the double homicide in Loggos, is expected to request an extension to prepare his defense, according to state broadcaster ERT.

He denies any involvement in the deaths of the 54-year-old woman and her son, claiming instead that the two “killed each other,” and that he did not witness anything because he was asleep at the time. He also described the younger victim as his “son,” according to statements reported by ERT.

Investigators, however, are scrutinizing inconsistencies in his account, including the delayed alert to authorities. Police say the suspect contacted a friend about six hours after the estimated time of death, who then notified law enforcement.

Authorities also note there were no signs of forced entry at the home, and surveillance cameras did not record any suspicious activity, suggesting the perpetrator may have already been inside the residence at the time of the killings.
