DNA testing has established that a months-old baby, the discovery of whose frozen corpse in a central Athens short-term rental triggered three arrests, was the child of two of the people suspected of its murder.
The 43-year-old Greek suspect and his 38-year-old German partner were also found to be the biological parents of two of the three surviving children found living with them in the Kypseli flat – a 15-year-old girl and a 12-year-old boy.
However, the third child, a 9-year-old boy, was found to be related only to the German suspect.
The two suspects had always said they were the dead baby’s parents, but denied killing it and said it died of natural causes and they froze its body as the mother couldn’t bear to be separated from it.
A coroner’s report found that the infant suffered at least ten stab injuries, and the two adults have been accused of killing it.
