For anyone who went through the Athens airport last month and experienced how busy it was, it would be hardly surprising to hear that August proved to a month for the record books.

Official data showed passenger traffic reaching 4.03 million in August, topping 4 million for the first time and rising by 3.7% from 3.88 million in August 2025.

International network passengers alone showed a 4.3% yearly increase to 2.88 million.

There was a positive picture throughout the year’s first eight months, as the airport, called Eleftherios Venizelos, served 23.71 million passengers in January-August, up 4.4% on an annual basis.
