A police sweep of a rural area on the southern island of Crete led to the discovery Tuesday of a small marijuana plantation with trees up to 3.5 meters high, authorities said.

A police statement said a 62-year-old local man was arrested in connection with the farm, in an operation in the southeastern Viannos region that followed a tip-off.

It said the suspect is accused of cultivating 45 cannabis plants.

A search of the farm and of a shed belonging to the suspect unveiled three sets of precision scales. The suspect faced charges under Greece’s drugs laws.
