A Greek woman extradited from Britain to face charges of involvement in an arson attack at an Athens bank that killed three people during a 2010 anti-austerity protest was remanded in prison Tuesday pending trial.
The 46-year-old woman has denied the charges, arguing that while she took part in the May 5 demonstration she was not near the Marfin Bank branch on Stadiou Avenue at the time of the attack that’s been attributed to far-leftists.
She testified for about an hour before an examining magistrate at Athens’ central court complex before being ordered to stay in pre-trial detention.
The 46-year-old woman, who had lived in Britain for years until her arrest on an international warrant, faces multiple charges of murder.
Two men, both aged 42, have also been charged and remanded pending trial over the arson attack at the height of the country’s debt crisis in which three bank employees died trapped by the flames.
