A large slice of the eastern Greek mainland and most of the Aegean Sea islands face a very high risk of wildfire Wednesday, civil protection authorities warned.
All of Attica, and adjoining parts of the mainland as far west as Phokis, as well as the island of Evia, the eastern and central Peloponnese, the islands of Skyros and Kythera, Thrace and eastern Macedonia, the Cyclades, the northeastern Aegean islands, Lesvos, Chios, Samos and Ikaria have been placed on level 4 of a 5-notch threat scale.
Only central and western Macedonia face a level-2 threat, while the rest of the country, including the southern island of Crete, the Ionian Sea islands and the Dodecanese in the Aegean face a level-3 risk.
