The region surrounding Athens, as well as most of the nearby island of Evia and parts of adjoining Viotia face a high risk of wildfire for yet another day Thursday, civil protection authorities said.
The three areas, including the capital of some 3.6 million people, have been rated as facing a level-4 risk on a 5-notch scale. They have been on the same rating for the past week.
Most of southern and much of central Greece, including the Aegean Sea islands and Crete, as well as the northeastern region of Thrace, face a level-3 wildfire risk Thursday.
Parts of Viotia and western Attica were ravaged by the fire that destroyed more than 10,000 hectares of mostly forest land over the past five days and burnt several homes in the villages of Porto Germeno and Psatha.
Two people died when a couple of firefighting helicopters battling the blaze collided Sunday.
