As fires continued to smolder near the Greek capital and neighboring regions, the Ministry of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection placed the region, Evia, Lesvos and Chios on a “Red Code” alert, due to a very high risk of wildfires predicted for Wednesday.

Ministry officials urged residents and travelers to exercise extreme caution, refrain from any activities that could spark a fire and follow all emergency directives, including automated alerts sent via the country’s 112 warning system.

Earlier, the Civil Protection Ministry issued its daily Fire Forecast Map which predicts a very high risk of fire (category 4) for Attica, Central Greece (Evia), and the North Aegean (Lesvos, Chios).
