Following almost a week of intense heat that affected the entire country, Attica, Evia and Rhodes have been placed on a “Red Code” alert due to a very high risk of wildfires predicted for Friday, the Ministry of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection has announced.
Ministry officials urged residents and travelers to exercise extreme caution, refrain from any activities that could spark a fire and follow all emergency directives, including automated alerts sent via the country’s 112 warning system.
The Category 4 fire danger rating has triggered the full mobilization of the civil protection mechanism. The status mandates maximum operational readiness across government agencies, including the deployment of additional personnel, increased aerial surveillance, and joint patrols by fire brigade, police, and military units. Fire service personnel in the affected regions have been placed on partial standby.
Municipal and regional officials were instructed to convene local coordination committees immediately to synchronize emergency efforts. Authorities also activated preventive measures prohibiting vehicle movement and public access to national parks, forests, and other vulnerable natural areas.
