Authorities have placed large parts of southeastern Greece, including areas stretching from the southern mainland to Crete and the Aegean islands, under very high wildfire risk for Monday.
The areas have been classified as Level 4, very high risk, the orange category and one step below the Level 5, red emergency alert.
Attica, areas northwest of Athens, much of the eastern Peloponnese, the northern and southern Aegean islands, and all of Crete are included in the Level 4 risk zone.
The Ministry of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection has urged residents and visitors to avoid activities that could trigger fires, including burning dry grass, branches or other waste; using spark-producing equipment such as circular saws and welding tools; operating outdoor grills; smoking bees; and discarding lit cigarettes.
The ministry also reminded the public that field burning is prohibited throughout the current fire-prevention period.
