The Civil Protection Ministry warned Friday that most of the country faces high fire risk on Saturday, with very high risk in Crete and parts of the northeastern Aegean, including Chios, Samos and Ikaria.
The general secretariat has alerted regional and municipal authorities in the highest-risk areas to stay on heightened readiness to respond quickly to any fire outbreaks. Officials urged residents to avoid outdoor activities that could spark blazes, such as burning dry grass, branches or cleared vegetation, using spark-generating tools, outdoor grills or smoking out beehives.
Field burning is banned during fire season, and anyone spotting a fire should call 199 immediately.
