A wildfire broke out Saturday afternoon in a forested area in southern Evia, northeast of Athens, fueled by strong winds. Authorities said the blaze has not threatened any nearby populated areas.

Dozens of firefighters have been deployed to battle the fire, north of the coastal town of Karystos, supported by three helicopters and six firefighting aircraft. Strong winds in the area have complicated suppression efforts, according to reports.

As a precaution, authorities issued a 112 emergency alert for the Mesochoria and Raptei areas, urging residents to remain on standby and follow any instructions issued by emergency services.
