Firefighters were battling a blaze that broke out in grassland in the central part of the island of Evia, central Greece.
The fire was burning near residences prompting authorities to issue an emergency 112 alert to the residents of Lata, near Aliveri, urging them to remain vigilant and await instructions by the authorities.
A large contingency of 65 firefighters with 18 fire trucks, units on foot, six water-dropping planes, and three helicopters are operating in the area which was on high fire risk due to rising temperatures.
The flames were detected by a fire department surveillance drone which is providing real time information on the development of the blaze.
