A 46-year-old woman accused of playing a supporting role in the deadly 2010 arson attack on a Marfin bank branch in central Athens appeared before an investigating magistrate on Friday and was given until Tuesday to testify.
The woman, who was brought before authorities under tight security, is accused of involvement in the deaths of three bank employees who were trapped inside the building after the attack on Stadiou Street during a major anti-austerity protest on May 5, 2010.
After the hearing, she was expected to return to Athens police headquarters, where she will remain in custody until her testimony.
The suspect was transferred to Athens from London on Thursday night after British authorities approved her extradition. She had been arrested on July 13 at Gatwick Airport while preparing to board a flight to Athens after an Interpol red notice was issued against her.
She appeared before a British court, where she consented to her extradition to Greece and signed the necessary documents. A team from Greece’s Organized Crime Division traveled to London to escort her back to Athens.
