BAGUIO CITY — Several roads across the Cordillera remained closed or under restricted access on Thursday as Tropical Storm Maymay crossed Northern Luzon after making landfall over Magsingal, Ilocos Sur at 2 a.m.
As of 4 a.m., the storm was in the vicinity of San Juan, Ilocos Sur, packing maximum sustained winds of 65 kilometers per hour (kph) and gusts of up to 110 kph while moving eastward at 10 kph. Wind Signal No. 2 remained in effect over Abra, western Apayao, western Kalinga, and western Mountain Province, while Signal No. 1 was raised over the rest of the Cordillera.
Amid the continuing rains, the Department of Public Works and Highways-Cordillera (DPWH-CAR) reported that the Mountain Province Junction Talubin–Barlig–Calaccad Road in Barangay Talubin at the capital town Bontoc was not passable due to an unstable slope. Equipment has been deployed to monitor the area and carry out response measures.
