The three-year discretionary prison sentence (habs-e ta’ziri) imposed on Karim Jalilzadeh, a Tehran resident arrested during the December 2025 protests, has been fully upheld by the appeals court.
HRANA reported that Branch 36 of the Tehran Provincial Court of Appeals sentenced the 44-year-old, who is married and the father of two daughters aged 10 and 12, to three years in prison on the charge of “assembly and collusion to act against national security.” The ruling was communicated to him on June 15.
The Revolutionary Court of Tehran had previously sentenced Jalilzadeh to three years in prison during his initial trial. His preliminary hearing was held in early April 2026 at Branch 29 of the Tehran Revolutionary Court.
Jalilzadeh was released from Greater Tehran Prison in mid-March 2026 after posting bail of 6 billion tomans.
Security forces originally arrested him at his residence in Tehran on January 12, 2026, in connection with the December protests. According to published reports, his arrest was carried out violently, and Jalilzadeh was briefly hospitalized at Boni Hashem Hospital in Tehran due to injuries sustained during his detention.
