According to information obtained by IranWire, Mahdi Karbalai Mohammadi, a psychology graduate and resident of Shahroud who was arrested on March 19 in connection with the January protests, has been sentenced to 5 years of discretionary imprisonment by Branch 1 of the Revolutionary Court of this city.

An informed source told IranWire that his charges were "assembly and collusion" and "propaganda against the regime," for which he was sentenced to a total of six years in prison, of which 5 years are enforceable, along with "2 years of internal exile to Minab."

The informed source added that Mr. Mohammadi is ill, and despite submitting medical reports to the judiciary indicating his medical inability to endure imprisonment, his case is currently with the Enforcement of Judgments Bureau, and he may be summoned to prison at any moment.

Mahdi Karbalai Mohammadi holds a bachelor's degree in psychology and was also deprived of the right to legal counsel throughout his proceedings.
