The Isfahan Province Court of Appeals has fully upheld a five-year prison sentence for Mahshad Keshani, a university student arrested during the January protests. She is currently incarcerated in Isfahan’s Doulatabad Prison.
Keshani was previously sentenced to five years in prison by Branch 5 of the Isfahan Revolutionary Court on charges of “propaganda against the regime,” “disrupting public order,” and “inciting people to bloodshed and killing.”
She was arrested on December 31, 2025, amid nationwide protests in Isfahan. Following the opening of a new judicial case, she was transferred to Doulatabad Prison to serve her prior sentence.
In July, after completing her previous term and posting bail in the case related to the January protests, Keshani was released. However, security forces rearrested her at her family home in Isfahan on Monday, August 3, and returned her to Doulatabad Prison.
Keshani had previously been sentenced in 2024 to six years in prison by Branch 1 of the Isfahan Revolutionary Court, presided over by Judge Mohammad Tavakoli. Under Article 134 of the Islamic Penal Code, five years were enforceable, while four years and six months were suspended for ten years. That ruling also included a two-year travel ban and a two-year ban on social media activity.
