Kamal Khanbabaei, a citizen detained during the nationwide protests of January 2026 and currently held in Choobindar Prison in Qazvin, has been sentenced to death on charges of “Moharebeh” (enmity against God) by Branch 1 of the Qazvin Revolutionary Court.
According to a report by the HRANA news agency, Branch 1 of the Qazvin Revolutionary Court, presided over by Judge Asadi, sentenced this citizen to death on the charge of “Moharebeh” through participation in the destruction of public property. Following an appeal, the verdict has been referred to the Supreme Court for review.
An informed source close to Kamal Khanbabaei’s family told HRANA that one of the specific accusations raised against him was breaking two cameras. According to the source, this has raised deep concerns regarding the judicial process and the handling of the prisoner’s case.
Kamal Khanbabaei was arrested on January 15 by agents of the Ministry of Intelligence. According to the report, he was held for approximately 10 days in a Ministry of Intelligence detention facility, where he was subjected to interrogation and severe beatings aimed at extracting forced confessions before being transferred to Choobindar Prison in Qazvin.
