The judiciary of the Islamic Republic announced that two individuals detained during the January protests were executed in Shahroud on Tuesday, June 16.
Mizan News Agency, the judiciary’s official media outlet, identified the executed individuals as Javad Zamani and Abolfazl Saedi, stating that both had been sentenced to death on charges of Moharebeh (enmity against God) and Efsad-e Fel-Arz (corruption on Earth).
The chief justice of Semnan Province listed the charges against the two prisoners as: “Moharebeh and corruption on Earth through drawing firearms and cold weapons, intentional destruction of public and private property with the intent to oppose the Islamic Republic system, disrupting public order and security, and assembly and collusion to commit crimes against national security.” So far, no further details have been released about the judicial process in Javad Zamani and Abolfazl Saedi’s cases, their access to legal counsel, or their condition before the sentences were carried out.
The execution of the two prisoners marks the first instance of death sentences being carried out against protesters since the announcement of the agreement between Tehran and Washington to end the 40-day war.
