The Kurdistan Human Rights Network reported on Thursday, May 28, that death sentences have been issued for two protesters arrested during the January protests.

According to the report, 38-year-old Esmail Ramadanpour and 30-year-old Arman Ma’refati have been convicted on charges such as Moharebeh (enmity against God) and "confronting the regime of the Islamic Republic," and have been sentenced to death.

It is reported that Esmail Ramadanpour was subjected to torture in a security detention center in Yazd before giving a forced confession, which was subsequently used as the basis to convict him of Moharebeh.

Arman Ma’refati, a native of Saqqez in Kurdistan Province, was arrested by security forces during the protests and was transferred to the Greater Tehran Prison after some time. He was sentenced to death on the charge of Moharebeh by Branch 15 of the Tehran Revolutionary Court, presided over by Judge Salavati.

Esmail Ramadanpour, a native of Fars Province and a resident of Yazd, was arrested by security forces during the protests and transferred to a security detention center in Yazd. According to an informed source, he was subjected to torture in this detention facility to extract forced confessions and was transferred to the Central Prison of Yazd following the conclusion of his interrogation phase.
