Four individuals arrested during the nationwide protests in January have been sentenced in separate cases to a combined total of one death sentence, nine years in prison, 148 lashes, fines amounting to 44 million tomans, a two-year travel ban, and two years of deprivation from social rights.
The Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA) reported that Mehdi “Sikan” Roshani, a resident of Malekshahi in Ilam Province, was sentenced to death on the charge of “moharebeh” (enmity against God) by the Ilam Revolutionary Court, presided over by Judge Feyzi. He stands accused of killing an officer of the Law Enforcement Command during the demonstrations.
Following his arrest, Roshani was initially transferred to Tehran for interrogation before being returned to Ilam, where he is currently being held in the local prison. A source informed HRANA that Roshani was “severely beaten” during his arrest, transfer, and interrogation sessions. His death sentence was communicated approximately a month ago, and his family has filed an appeal through their legal counsel.
In a separate case, the Tehran Appeals Court upheld a five-year prison sentence for Amir Mohammad Ahmadi, a 19-year-old political prisoner. Branch 26 of the Tehran Revolutionary Court, presided over by Judge Iman Afshari, had previously handed down the five-year sentence.
