Abolfazl Sepahi Badjani, 23, and Amir-Hossein Safari Hosseinabadi, 28, two detainees from the January 2026 protests and defendants in the so-called “Alikhani Square” case in Isfahan, were executed in public on Tuesday morning, July 28, 2026, at Malekshahr Square in Isfahan. With these two executions, the number of individuals executed in connection with this case has reached four.
Mizan, the official news agency of the Judiciary, identified the two men as the “key figures in the killing of four law enforcement officers” during protests on January 8, 2026, near Isfahan’s Alikhani Square, claiming that they injured and set fire to the officers during the incident.
However, details regarding the judicial proceedings, the defendants’ access to legal counsel, the fairness of the trial, and the conditions under which confessions were extracted cannot be independently verified.
Simultaneously with the announcement of the executions, citizen-submitted videos and reports shared on social media indicated that a crowd of citizens had gathered around the execution site in Isfahan. In these videos, anti-government slogans can be heard as the morning call to prayer plays, alongside a heavy presence of security personnel and Special Forces. Reports have also emerged of clashes between protesters and security forces, as well as internet disruptions across Isfahan.
