ALBAWABA - Iran has publicly hanged two protesters involved in the January protests against the Iranian regime last year, the hangings reportedly taking place in a public square.Iranian Mehr news agency confirmed that the executions took place in Malekshahr’s square, in central Isfahan;“The death sentences of Abolfazl Sepahi and Amir-Hossein Safari were carried out this morning,“The two were found guilty of attacking police officers with machetes and knives, tying them to road signs, pulling them on the ground, dousing them with gasoline, and setting them on fire on January 8,” the judiciary's Mizan Online website said.Videos from Alikhani Square in Isfahan, Iran, show crowds gathering amid reports authorities are preparing the site for the execution of detained protesters, as a banner at the scene reads: “No crime escapes the eyes of the law. Justice will soon be carried out.”…— Open Source Intel (@Osint613) July 28, 2026 The Mizan Online website continued its accusations of those executed, saying they had committed “moharebeh (waging war against God) by drawing weapons and creating fear and terror" and "corruption on earth for committing acts that severely disrupted public order and security in the country", among other fancy terms of condemnation.Two other men were hanged over similar charges in Isfahan province on July 19.According to Amnesty International, Iran conducts the second most executions of any country after China.
