Three citizens from Kurdistan province, identified as Ashkan Maleki, Mehrdad Mohammadinya, and Arman Ma’refati, who were arrested in Tehran during the January protests, have been sentenced to death in a joint case by Branch 15 of the Tehran Revolutionary Court, presided over by Judge Abolqasem Salavati.
According to a report by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, Ashkan Maleki and Mehrdad Mohammadinya, both from Qorveh, and Arman Ma’refati, from Saqqez, were sentenced to death on the charge of Moharebeh (enmity against God), and they face an imminent risk of execution.
Hengaw reported that the sentences were recently served to the three prisoners in jail. According to the report, Arman Ma’refati is being held in Fashafuye Prison (Greater Tehran Central Penitentiary), while Ashkan Maleki and Mehrdad Mohammadinya are confined in Qezel Hesar Prison in Karaj.
The human rights organization reported that the three defendants were denied the right to choose their own legal counsel throughout the judicial proceedings and were deprived of fair trial standards. Hengaw also stated that their death sentences were issued based on forced confessions extracted under pressure and torture, with direct interference from security agencies.
