According to reports published by human rights sources, Branch 15 of the Tehran Revolutionary Court, presided over by Judge "Abolghasem Salavati," has issued death sentences for "Mehdi Nazer" and his fiancée, "Mahnaz Chardoli."

Based on these reports, in addition to the death penalty, Mahnaz Chardoli has been sentenced to 10 years in prison. "Atefeh Nazer," Mehdi Nazer's sister, has also received a 10-year prison sentence.

The three citizens were arrested in Tehran on January 11, 2026. Human rights sources have stated that the charges against them include "attacking a mosque with Molotov cocktails," "participating in illegal gatherings," and "assembly and collusion."

Thus far, the judiciary of the Islamic Republic has neither confirmed nor denied the issuance of these sentences. The sources publishing the news also noted that on the day of their arrest, no public reports of an attack on a mosque had been released, and their families have been placed under pressure to remain silent about the case.

Abolghasem Salavati, the head of Branch 15 of the Tehran Revolutionary Court, is a sanctioned judge of the Islamic Republic, and his name has been tied to heavy sentences against political and civil activists, as well as protesters, over the past years.
