Pourya Hosseini-Mofared, a 23-year-old man detained during the January protests, has been sentenced to death by Branch 5 of the Mashhad Revolutionary Court.

The HRANA news agency reported on August 19, 2026, that the death sentence was issued by Judge Hossein Yazdankhah approximately one month ago.

The charges brought against Hosseini-Mofared include “acting against national security,” “assembly and collusion,” and “carrying out operational acts disrupting national security.”

An informed source told HRANA that the specific acts cited as evidence for these charges were breaking the glass of a bus stop and setting fire to boxwood bushes following his participation in a protest rally.

Pourya Hosseini-Mofared was arrested in Mashhad on January 14. Following interrogation and judicial proceedings, he was transferred to Vakilabad Prison in Mashhad, where he remains incarcerated.
