Branch 1 of the Shiraz Revolutionary Court has sentenced Mojtaba Dehbandi and Kianoush Hamzehei Kazerouni to death in connection with the January 2026 protest cases. According to published reports, providing medical assistance to injured protesters was cited as one of the primary pillars of the case against them.
Iran Human Rights (IHR NGO) reported that Mojtaba Dehbandi, 23, and Kianoush Hamzehei Kazerouni, 27, were handed death sentences by Branch 1 of the Shiraz Revolutionary Court on charges of “moharebeh” (enmity against God) for setting fire to public places and burning the Quran, as well as acting against national security by harbouring protesters. This initial verdict was issued over two months ago, and both men are currently being held in Shiraz’s Adelabad Prison.
An informed source told Iran Human Rights that Dehbandi worked alongside his brother in the curtain shop business, while Hamzehei worked in the wholesale grocery trade. According to the source, during the protests, they brought several injured protesters into their workplace to provide medical care.
The source added that security forces identified the two men using footage from shop surveillance cameras and arrested both at their homes eight days later. Four injured protesters who were present at the scene during the raid were also detained; no information has since been released regarding their whereabouts or condition.
