Samoa sprinter Symone Tafuna‘i says representing Samoa at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games was a special moment, after making her debut at the event as the country’s only female sprinter.
Tafuna‘i finished fourth in Heat 8 of the women’s 100m on Monday, July 27, clocking 12.03 seconds.
Only the top two athletes qualified for the next round, with Nigeria’s Oluebube Ezechukwu winning the heat in 11.32 seconds and Barbados’ Kishawna Niles taking second in 11.52 seconds.
Ghana’s Deborah Acheampong placed third in 11.66 seconds, ahead of Tafuna‘i in fourth.
But for the Samoan sprinter, stepping onto the Commonwealth Games stage was a milestone in itself.
